This remodel of a circa 1850s home in the South Dennis Historic District was designed to preserve the property’s historic character while improving functionality. The client’s main objectives were a first-floor primary suite, a larger common area for gathering, and a side entrance near the driveway.

Two additions were designed to meet these goals. The first, located adjacent to the driveway, added a side entryway, mudroom, powder room, laundry area, and coat storage. The second replaced the original kitchen with a larger open-concept kitchen and living area. An adjoining bedroom was converted into a walk-in closet and bathroom to complete the first-floor primary suite.

Additional updates include a covered walkway connecting the new screened-in porch to a new oversized garage on the front elevation, and the conversion of the former one-car garage into a pool house. This pool house serves a new plunge pool and patio.

To maintain continuity between the original structure and the new additions, the design matches the roof pitch and replicates architectural details, including the antique corner pilasters.
